Tim Schmoyer, a youth pastor and friend from Alexandria, Minnesota is thinking about ending his large youth group meetings. Funny, I’ve had the same thought off and on over the last year.
On the National Day of Prayer: Our president seems to be getting some heat for not participating in any official events. Frankly, I am torn on this. Actually, I am not. Believers are told to “pray without ceasing”. Jesus told his followers “When you pray, go in your room, shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret.” Isaiah 58 is all about “real” fasting and praying.
To be clear, I did not vote for the man, and am personally against the vast majority of everything he stands for. I am against his policies that promote infanticide, and his economic values are atrocious. But, scripture clearly teaches that “The authorities that exist have been established by God.” We are urged that “requests, prayers and intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who want all men to be saved and come to a knowledge of truth.”
The man has a job more difficult than anything we can imagine, and he is worthy of our prayers. Not to mention that he’s made in God’s image. He has mine, and he should have yours. So quit being mad that he’s not standing on a street corner and praying in public.
