To the elders among you- be shepherds of God’s flock under your care; oversee them.
- not because you must but because you are willing to serve God
- not out of an eagerness for money but out of an eagerness to serve
- not to lord your authority over men but as an example to your flock
And when Jesus returns, you will receive a crown that will never fade away (unlike the “have to serve”, the money or faux-authority, above).
Young men should be submissive to those older than they and all of you should clothe yourselves in humility because God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble. Be humble that He may lift you up and cast your anxieties upon him; he cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert; your enemy is on the prowl, waiting to devour you. Resist him firmly in the faith because you know that people all around the world are facing the same temptations as you. God will restore you because he’s called you to his glory; you’ll be made strong, firm and steadfast. To Him be all power, Amen.
With Silas’ help, I have written this to encourage you and to tell you of God’s grace. Stand fast. Those in Babylon send their greetings, as does Mark. Greet the others with a holy kiss. Peace to all in Christ.
