God Overcomes Evil

Romans 12Because God is glorious, we are urged in his mercy to give ourselves fully in sacrifice, a holy sacrifice, pleasing to God.

This is how we worship him spiritually. Do not conform to the ways of this word. Rather, be transformed by having your very mind, your way of thinking, renewed. Only a renewed mind can test and agree what God’s will is- and his will is perfect, pleasing and good.

God gave me the grace to say this:

Do not think of yourselves more highly than you are. Think honestly about yourselves, know your actual place. Judge yourself in accordance with the faith given you by God.

Just as each of us has a single body made of many parts, for those in Christ, the body, the church, also is made up of many parts and we are one in Christ alone. If a man can prophesy, he should do so boldly in accordance with the gift and faith given to him. It is the same with serving, teaching, encouraging, meeting needs, leading and showing mercy. Each of these things should be done cheerfully.

But not only cheerfully, but sincerely. Your love must be honest, gifts used with integrity. The evil must be hated and the good clung to. Devote yourselves to one another and honor them above yourself. Do not lack zeal and keep your fervor for the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in trials and faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people in need. Be hospitable

When others persecute you, don’t curse them but bless them. Join those who are rejoicing in their rejoicing. And for those in mourning, join them in their mourning. Be harmonious with others, not proud. Associate boldly with the other. Do not be conceited.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil- remember- eyes are everywhere. We are being watched day and night by people, so be sure to do what is right at all times. If it is possible, as much as it depends on you, be at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, that’s God’s job- to avenge, to repay. Instead:

If your enemy is thirsty, give him a drink. If your enemy is hungry, give home something to eat. By doing this, you will heap burning coals onto his head.

Do not be overcome by evil, overcome evil with good.
